Tesla’s EU sales drop amid rising competition

(MENAFN) Tesla’s electric vehicle sales in the European Union dropped sharply in November, falling 34.2% compared to the same month last year, according to industry reports. The US automaker sold 12,130 units in the EU last month, down from 18,430 units in November 2024. Its market share also slid to 1.4%, from 2.1% a year earlier.

Over the first 11 months of the year, Tesla’s EU sales fell 38.8% year-on-year, totaling 129,024 units. Across Europe, including the EU, the European Free Trade Association, and the UK, the company sold 22,801 vehicles, marking an 11.8% decline compared with the same period in 2024.

By contrast, overall battery electric vehicle sales in the EU grew strongly, rising 44.1% to 188,730 units. Chinese automaker BYD, a key competitor, saw its EU sales soar 235.2% year-on-year to 16,158 units, lifting its market share from 0.6% last November to 1.8% this year.

Industry analysts attribute Tesla’s declining European performance to a combination of Elon Musk’s controversial political positions, his involvement in European political debates, and intensified competition from Chinese EV brands, according to reports.
