Trump Reveals New Massive Warships Construction Plans

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that the U.S. Navy will move forward with building a new generation of warships, unveiling plans for what he called “Trump-class” battleships that he described as unmatched in size, speed and firepower.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of the Navy John Phelan, Trump said he had authorized the Navy to begin construction on two of the largest battleships ever built by the United States. He added that eight additional vessels would follow, with long-term plans calling for a total fleet of 20 to 25 new battleships.

“These ships will be ‘the fastest, the biggest, and by far 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built,’” Trump said.

According to Trump, the proposed warships would displace between 30,000 and 40,000 tons and feature advanced weapons systems, including hypersonic missiles, railguns, cruise missiles and laser-based defenses. He said the vessels would serve as the new flagships of the U.S. Navy.

Phelan echoed that assessment, saying the “Trump-class battleship” would be “the largest, most lethal, most fully functional and most aesthetically pleasing battleship in the world.”

The U.S. Department of Defense said in a statement issued the same day that the new warship class is currently in the design phase, with the first vessel targeted for completion in the early 2030s.
