US intel director accuses Biden of allowing terrorists to enter country
(MENAFN) The head of US national intelligence has issued a warning about what she described as an immediate danger posed by individuals suspected of terrorism who are currently residing within the United States. She claimed that federal authorities permitted approximately 18,000 people classified as known or suspected terrorists to enter the country.
Speaking in a televised interview, Tulsi Gabbard accused the current administration of negligence in screening procedures. “The Biden administration did not take their vetting responsibilities seriously,” she said, adding that her concern is there are “so many more that we are not aware of yet.”
Referring to figures from federal counterterrorism bodies, Gabbard stated that around 2,000 of those individuals were Afghan nationals who arrived in the US after the 2021 military withdrawal from Afghanistan. She said reports from alleged whistleblowers indicated that screening processes were deliberately accelerated during that period.
According to her account, those whistleblowers claimed they were instructed to “hurry up, don't do the thorough vetting that you normally do because we have to hurry up and get these people into the United States.”
Describing the outcome as catastrophic, Gabbard said, “What we are seeing right now is the exact result where we have a direct threat on the lives of the American people.” She linked her warning to a shooting that occurred the day before Thanksgiving, in which two National Guard members were shot, one of them fatally, with authorities identifying the suspect as an Afghan national.
At the same time, reports indicate that the administration faced pressure to fast-track vetting due to shortcomings in preparations made by the previous government ahead of the 2021 withdrawal. Those accounts suggest that the pullout was conducted under an agreement reached earlier, which left limited time and insufficient planning for evacuations.
Following the disorderly exit from Afghanistan, official assessments released afterward said the administration at the time was constrained by commitments made during the earlier term, including pledges to withdraw US forces and a lack of detailed plans for removing remaining troops and evacuating American citizens and local allies ahead of the deadline, according to reports.
