Diplomatic Corps Donates LKR 3.6 Million For Sri Lanka Disaster Relief


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The diplomatic community in Sri Lanka today donated a total of LKR 3.6 million to support communities affected by the recent disaster. The contribution, made from the personal salaries of diplomats based in Colombo, was formally handed over to Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Hon. Vijitha Herath, at his bureau in the Republic Building.

The donation was presented by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Ms. Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of Indonesia, alongside representatives from the Maldives, Italy, Korea, Switzerland, Palestine, and Oman, highlighting strong international solidarity.

Minister Herath welcomed the gesture, noting that the support from Sri Lanka's international partners reflects enduring cooperation and goodwill.“Such solidarity is especially meaningful at a time when the country is working to rebuild and restore normalcy,” he said.

The Ministry confirmed that the funds will be directed toward ongoing relief and recovery programmes for affected communities.
