Azizi Prepares $5Bn In Equipment To Generate 5,000MW In Afghanistan
KABUL (Pajhwok): Tycoon businessman and Azizi Group chairman Mirwais Azizi says his company has prepared technical equipment and technology worth five billion US dollars within five months to generate around 5,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity in Afghanistan.
He announced that practical work on projects aimed at producing 10,000 MW of power in various parts of the country would begin within the next six months.
In a post on his X handle, Azizi said that on August 2, 2025, the Azizi Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW), after which practical steps toward implementing the major electricity-generation initiative began immediately.
According to him, over the past few months, technical teams travelled across Afghanistan for site assessments, while procurement teams visited several countries - including Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, the United States, Chile and China - to secure machinery and core components for planned power plants.
Azizi said these missions had produced“positive results,” enabling the company to procure essential equipment and technology needed to generate 5,000 MW of electricity - particularly from coal and solar energy - with a total value of about $5 billion.
“Thanks to the progress made so far, over the next six months we will see the delivery of plants and equipment for projects in different parts of the country. Meanwhile, the procurement of additional plants and critical equipment - worth another $5 billion and focused on hydro, natural gas, and wind resources - will continue in the second half of next year,” he added.
Azizi also expressed gratitude to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) for its cooperation.
