- Research Fellow, School of Arts, English and Languages, Queen's University Belfast
I am a sociolinguist whose research examines language attitudes and ideologies, and language policy. In particular, I am interested in how we judge and correct the way people speak, write and sign, and this is explored in my first book Linguistic Insecurities and Authorities (John Benjamins, 2025).
I have a PhD in French Sociolinguistics from the University of Nottingham and have held teaching and research positions at the University of Birmingham, the University of Cambridge, Cardiff University/Prifysgol Caerdydd and Queen's University Belfast. Currently, I am a Leverhulme Early Career Researcher at Queen's University Belfast, leading a three-year project on language judgements in popular culture (Project website: co).
Experience- 2024–present Research fellow, Queen's University Belfast
- 2021 University of Nottingham, PhD in French Sociolinguistics
