Bill seeking release of Epstein files is backed by victims

(MENAFN) Victims of the late disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have thrown their support behind a new bill introduced by Democratic Senator Ron Wyden that would force the U.S. Treasury Department to hand over documents detailing Epstein’s financial activities.

Wyden, the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, announced Tuesday that survivors have formally endorsed his Produce Epstein Treasury Records Act, which aims to compel Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to release Epstein-related financial records that have been withheld from Senate investigators.

“These records, which detail Epstein’s financial network and transactions, are not among those the Department of Justice is required to release under legislation passed last month,” the Senate Finance Committee said in a statement, adding that Secretary Bessent has repeatedly refused to provide them.

The bill seeks to shed light on how Epstein and his associates hid the wealth that financed their sex trafficking operations.

In a letter submitted through their attorneys, victims stressed the importance of full transparency and demanded the release of all government-held documents connected to Epstein. They urged senators to advance Wyden’s legislation without delay.

Wyden said the trove of Treasury records — withheld for over a year — would offer a detailed overview of Epstein’s financial network and help identify individuals who may have supported or enabled the trafficking scheme.

The senator, who has spent more than three years investigating Epstein’s finances, praised the survivors for their “courage and determination” in bringing the crimes to light. Earning their support, he said, was both an honor and confirmation that lawmakers are “on the right path.”
