Srinagar- A Delhi court on Tuesday extended the police custody of Amir Rashid Ali, a Jammu and Kashmir resident arrested in connection with the Red Fort blast, for another seven days. Ali was earlier remanded to NIA custody on November 26, a day before his initial ten day remand was set to expire.
Ali, arrested on November 16, was produced before Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna. The NIA has already arrested seven others linked to the case, which investigators say is part of a wider“white collar” terror network uncovered by the Jammu and Kashmir police.
The blast on November 10 killed fifteen people near Red Fort in Delhi and left more than two dozen injured. The explosion was triggered by an IED planted inside a Hyundai i20, allegedly driven by suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi. The vehicle was registered in Ali's name.
ADVERTISEMENTAccording to the NIA, Ali had travelled to Delhi to help arrange the purchase of the car later used as a vehicle borne IED. The agency has identified the driver as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama and an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine department at Al Falah University in Faridabad.
