Johnny Parr
- Senior Lecturer, Sport and Exercise Science with expertise in psychophysiology and motor control, Manchester Metropolitan University
I am a psychophysiologist with expertise in motor control, visuomotor attention, and brain–body communication. My research spans both basic and applied domains, focusing on how neural activity-especially EEG alpha power and functional connectivity-relates to skilled movement and motor impairment. I have a particular interest in how attention and anxiety affect movement in real-world settings, from prosthetic hand control and sports performance to developmental conditions like dyspraxia (DCD). My work includes systematic reviews, lab-based EEG studies, and real-world behavioural research, including pioneering studies on gaze behaviour and postural control in children with DCD. I have co-developed new tools for assessing mental workload in prosthesis use and investigated how dual-task interference and conscious control disrupt motor performance. My interdisciplinary collaborations span neuroscience, rehabilitation, sport psychology, and biomedical engineering, with the goal of translating complex brain–body interactions into better clinical and practical outcomes for individuals with movement difficulties.
