India, Russia Explore Production of Su-57 Fighter Jets
(MENAFN) India and Russia are in talks regarding the joint manufacturing of the fifth-generation Sukhoi Su-57 aircraft.
This development was disclosed by Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov during an interview with a news agency on Thursday.
“Intensive work is underway across a range of areas, including the Su-57E platform, which can be utilized to implement India’s program for developing its own fifth-generation fighter,” he stated.
Alipov highlighted that Russia’s edge stems from an unparalleled level of technology transfer and the localization of manufacturing, aligning with India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Self-Reliant India’ initiatives.
The Russian state-owned arms exporter Rosoboronexport reportedly showcased its operational capabilities to Indian journalists at the Dubai Airshow.
The Su-57, one of the world’s few stealth aircraft, is engineered to engage and counter both fourth and fifth-generation fighter jets, according to a senior official from Rosoboronexport.
Discussions on technology transfer and strategic collaboration are taking place in anticipation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forthcoming visit to India.
In October, defense authorities from both nations convened to identify new avenues for partnership.
Earlier this year, the Su-57 made an appearance at Asia’s largest airshow – Aero India – held at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru. Its main rival, the American Lockheed Martin F-35, was also showcased at the event.
