Czech Government Studies Peace Plan And Calls For Exploring New Ways To Support Ukraine

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was stated by Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky, reports Ukrinform.

Lipavsky noted that the Czech Republic is thoroughly reviewing the 28-point US peace plan and discussing it with its allies in the Coalition of the Willing. He added that Czech and European partners view the plan as a potential basis for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

He emphasized that any peaceful settlement in Ukraine would directly affect security across the European continent for decades, requiring a highly responsible approach. Lipavsky also highlighted that the current draft contains provisions affecting European defense capabilities, as well as Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to Lipavsky, further diplomatic steps will aim to refine the plan to ensure it does not negatively impact Czech security. He stressed the Czech Republic's support for E3 countries (Germany, France, and the United Kingdom) and other states engaging in diplomatic talks with the US to develop an alternative version of the plan.

He also reiterated support for Ukraine, describing it as an essential European bulwark against Russian imperial ambitions, and called for additional support measures for Ukraine, including continued sanctions on Russia.

Lipavsky noted that negotiations about Ukraine cannot occur without Ukraine's involvement. He drew a historical parallel, noting that Europe's concessions to the aggressor in 1938 only delayed war for a year before World War II began, and urged that lessons from history not be repeated in 2025.

As reported, the US side has handed Kyiv a 28-point plan, which is currently being discussed among its closest partners.
