Alibaba Reveals Open-Source Robot “Brain” Model
(MENAFN) Chinese technology company Alibaba has introduced a new open-source model that equips robots with a "brain," according to a media outlet on Wednesday.
The model, named RynnBrain, is an embodied foundational system built on Alibaba’s Qwen3-VL. It is specifically engineered to perceive, reason, and act in physical surroundings rather than being limited to purely digital environments.
Alibaba highlighted that RynnBrain can accomplish more sophisticated functions, including "performing physically aware reasoning and executing complex real-world tasks," moving beyond mere passive observation.
Additionally, the system can detect and spatially map actionable opportunities within localized or three-dimensional spaces. This capability allows downstream Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models to execute more advanced operations, the company explained.
Charlie Zheng, chief economist at Samoyed Cloud Technology Group Holdings, noted that the model’s unique spatial reasoning represents a significant advancement for Chinese developers working on embodied intelligence foundational systems.
This innovation signifies a step forward in China’s ambition to tackle a key obstacle in robotics development and commercialization: creating robots with "brains" rather than relying solely on preprogrammed instructions.
