Oman's Ambassador Hails Deep-Rooted Relations With Kuwait


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Nov 23 (KUNA) -- Oman's Ambassador to Kuwait Dr. Saleh Al-Kharousi praised on Sunday the close and distinguished historical relations between the two Arabian Gulf countries.
The Ambassador said in a speech during a ceremony held by the Omani Embassy in Kuwait celebrating the Sultanate's National Day that relations between the two countries enjoy special care and unlimited support from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and his brother, His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and a number of sheikhs, state officials and heads of diplomatic missions in the country attended the embassy ceremony.
The Ambassador stated that Kuwaiti-Omani relations are "deeply rooted and fraternal," adding that the two countries leaders have taken political, economic, and cultural steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
He noted that the significant progress in political cooperation this year, including the fraternal visit of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the Sultanate of Oman on October 14th, leading a high-level delegation.
During the visit, His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and His Majesty the Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq discussed ways to strengthen joint bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly the economy, trade and investment.
The Ambassador pointed out that bilateral relations have grown steadily in the recent years.
Kuwait has become one of the top investors in the Sultanate, with direct investments estimated this year at USD 1.362 billion, making Kuwait the leading economic partner in the Gulf, the Arab world, and the third-leading economic partner worldwide, after the United Kingdom and the United States.
He indicated that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries have reached about five billion dollars last year, up nearly 120 percent from the previous year.
Ambassador Al-Kharousi said that the National Day embodies the Sultanate of Oman's celebration of its rich history, as well as the founding of the Al Busaidi dynasty on November 20, 1744, when the founder, Ahmed bin Said Al Busaidi, unified the nation and laid the foundations for the modern Omani state which is based on sovereignty, unity, and dignity.
He pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman continues its journey today under the leadership of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq who has vision that balances tradition and modernization. The country is looking forward to a more prosperous and sustainable future, he said.
He affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman has established a firm diplomatic approach based on positive neutrality, balance, dialogue, and respect for the UN Charter and international law, calling for prioritizing wisdom, containing escalation in the region, and adopting peaceful means to resolve conflicts without interfering in the internal affairs of states.
In this regard, Ambassador Al-Kharousi reiterated the Sultanate of Oman's unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions.
The Sultanate calls on the international community to work diligently to achieve the two-state solution, to establish a comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East, he stated. (end)
