(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) launched an agriculture support project to improve the living standards of families affected by natural disasters in Afghanistan. The project forms part of QRCS' humanitarian and development interventions in Afghanistan and with funding from Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD). It is being implemented in partnership with the Afghan Welfare Society and in co-ordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock; local authorities; and target communities. Under the $423,883 project, agricultural supply kits will be distributed to 2,000 families in four districts of Logar Province. QRCS offers agri support for Afghan families affected by natural disasters.
The project involves agricultural extension and farmer education programmes for the beneficiaries on the best pest control practices and wheat crop management. A launching ceremony was held in Kharwar District, attended by the district chief, representatives of competent government authorities, community leaders, and the project's team from QRCS' representation office in Afghanistan. Over two days, agricultural supplies were distributed to 500 farmer families in Kharwar. The beneficiaries thanked Qatar, QFFD, and QRCS for the assistance, which would upgrade agricultural activities, enhance food security for the population, and improve the living standards of families in need and victims of natural disasters.
