On November 19, the WED Costa Rica International Award recognized the work of women entrepreneurs who are generating economic and social change in their communities. The ceremony was held at Centro Surí as part of International Women's Entrepreneurship Day.

The event was organized by the Surí Training Center, the ALAS organization, and the international Women's Entrepreneurship Day (WED) network, which promotes education, leadership, and female empowerment in business in more than 140 countries.

The participants completed a training program in business modeling, marketing, finance, and leadership offered by Centro Surí. For many of them, this process marked the beginning of a new professional stage.

The jury was made up of Nuria Marín (president of ALAS and WED Costa Rica ambassador), Lilliana Carranza (journalist), Elizabeth Arroyave (CEO of EA Tech Consulting and vice president of CAMTIC), Pía Gutiérrez (nutritionist and entrepreneur), and Cristina Izquierdo (executive director of ALAS). The evaluations focused on innovation, sustainability, creativity, social impact, and strategic clarity.

“When a woman is educated, her community progresses. This award recognizes that courage to learn, persevere, and grow,” Marín said during the event.

Mercedes Gallegos, director of the Surí Educational Project, highlighted the scope of female entrepreneurship:“When a woman becomes an entrepreneur, it doesn't just open a door; it opens a path for many more.”
