Egypt: Discovery Of 225 Funerary Figurines Dating Back To Rule Of Pharaoh Shosheng III

CAIRO, No 20 (KUNA) -- Egyptian authorities on Thursday declared discover of 225 funerary figurines dating back to the rule of King Shoshenq III, an Egyptian pharaoh from the 22nd Dynasty, in the region of San el-Hagar, in northeastern Egypt.
The ministry of tourism said in a statement a French expedition located the figurines covered with clay close to a granite sarcophagus.
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Dr. Mohammed Ismail said in a statement the discovery was a unique scientific addition in the royal graves in Tanis since 1946.
He indicated that the nearby coffin might have belonged to the monarch, Shoshenq III. (end)
