Google CEO Warns Users of Blindly Trusting AI

(MENAFN) Artificial intelligence remains prone to errors and should not be trusted without scrutiny, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and its parent company Alphabet, cautioned.

In an interview aired Tuesday, Pichai emphasized the need for users to consult multiple search tools rather than relying exclusively on AI.

AI platforms are useful “if you want to creatively write something,” he said, but users “have to learn to use these tools for what they’re good at, and not blindly trust everything they say.” Pichai added, “The current state-of-the-art AI technology is prone to some errors.”

The warning comes as Google gears up to launch its next-generation AI model, Gemini 3.0, expected by the end of the year, according to Pichai.

The Gemini project, first released in 2023, faced criticism for its strict “safety” and “diversity” settings, which frequently produced inaccurate results in image-generation tasks. The AI drew ridicule for misrepresenting historical figures ranging from America’s founding fathers and Russian emperors to Catholic popes and even Nazi German soldiers.

Earlier this month, Google faced allegations that it secretly allowed Gemini to collect user data without consent. A lawsuit filed in a California federal court claimed the company had enabled the AI assistant to illegally monitor private communications across Gmail, chat, and video-conferencing platforms.

The explosive growth of AI technologies has fueled massive investment, driving valuations across the sector to record highs. Industry experts have warned of a potential bubble as tech firms spend aggressively to secure a foothold in the booming AI market, which has been accelerated by competitors like ChatGPT challenging Google’s dominance in online search.

Spending on AI by major tech companies is estimated at roughly $400 billion annually.

When asked whether Google could remain insulated if an AI bubble bursts, Pichai responded: “I think no company is going to be immune, including us.”
