Trump administration collaborates with Russia on Ukraine peace plan
(MENAFN) The Trump administration has reportedly been secretly coordinating with Russia on a new draft plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, according to a report Tuesday.
The plan, according to anonymous US and Russian sources cited by Axios, consists of 28 points and takes inspiration from President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan, which Israel and Hamas agreed to last month following more than two years of conflict in Gaza.
The draft focuses on four main areas: achieving peace in Ukraine, providing security guarantees, addressing wider European security concerns, and defining the future of US relations with both Kyiv and Moscow.
Details remain unclear regarding how the plan would resolve key disputes, including territorial control in eastern Ukraine.
A US official said Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff is spearheading the effort and has held extensive discussions with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who reportedly spent three days meeting Trump’s team in Miami in late October.
A White House official added that Trump believes “there is a chance to end this senseless war if flexibility is shown,” and US officials have started briefing European partners on the emerging proposal.
