Trump, Saudi Crown Prince sign broad bilateral agreements

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday signed multiple agreements covering a broad spectrum of bilateral priorities, including defense cooperation and civil nuclear technology.

According to the White House, the deals "deepen the U.S.-Saudi strategic partnership, expand opportunities for high-paying American jobs, strengthen critical supply chains, and reinforce regional stability—all while putting American workers, industry, and security first."

Bin Salman said earlier that Saudi Arabia has raised a May investment pledge from $600 billion to nearly $1 trillion, a key request from Trump ahead of their talks.

Trump agreed to supply Saudi Arabia with what he described as "top of the line" F-35 stealth aircraft. While the White House did not disclose the number or model of jets included, it confirmed they will be part of a "major defense sale package."

The defense deal, it said, "strengthens the U.S. defense industrial base and ensures Saudi Arabia continues to buy American." Reports have indicated that Riyadh had sought around two dozen F-35s. Details on the total cost and additional defense items were not provided.

The two leaders also concluded an accord on civil nuclear cooperation that lays the groundwork for a long-term partnership and "confirms that the United States and American companies will be the Kingdom’s civil nuclear cooperation partners of choice," the White House said.

It added that the agreement "ensures that all cooperation will be conducted in a manner consistent with strong nonproliferation standards."

A separate framework on critical minerals aims to strengthen collaboration on these resources and harmonize national strategies to "diversify critical mineral supply chains."

Additionally, a memorandum of understanding on artificial intelligence "gives the Kingdom access to world-leading American systems while protecting U.S. technology from foreign influence, ensuring that American innovators will shape the future of global AI," according to the White House.

The texts of the agreements were not made available.
