Germany Ends Ban on Arms Exports to Israel
(MENAFN) Germany declared Monday it will terminate partial restrictions on weapons exports to Israel, taking effect Nov. 24. The limitations were initially enacted in August.
A German news agency reported that federal government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius attributed the policy reversal primarily to the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
On Aug. 8, Germany suspended weapons shipments to Israel that could be deployed in Gaza, responding to the Israeli government's choice to escalate military operations in Gaza.
Kornelius explained that following the embargo's removal, Germany will return to its conventional procedure of assessing Israeli arms export applications on a case-by-case basis.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar on Monday welcomed Berlin's decision to ease the restrictions.
