KABUL (Pajhwok): Minister of Foreign Affairs Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi has voiced hope for significant progress in ties between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

He expressed the hope at a meeting with a high-ranking Tajikistani delegation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

The delegation- comprising representatives from various departments and led by the country's special envoy for Afghanistan- travelled to Kabul on Saturday.

A statement from the ministry said the two sides discussed enhancing cooperation, particularly in diplomatic relations and economic collaboration.

During the meeting, Muttaqi highlighted the long-standing historical relations between the two nations, noting that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) seeks to maintain friendly and constructive ties with the Republic of Tajikistan.

He said:“Fortunately, these relations are expanding in various areas and we hope to see remarkable progress in the near future between our two brotherly and neighbouring countries.”

For its part, the Tajik delegation also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation, saying Afghanistan and Tajikistan have the potential for close collaboration in multiple fields.

Both sides emphasised the importance of continuing such meetings and visits, the statement concluded.
