Deadly landslide in central Java claims six Lives, many are missing

(MENAFN) Six fatalities have been confirmed and 17 individuals are still unaccounted for after a landslide struck Indonesia’s Central Java province on Thursday, officials said on Saturday.

M. Abdullah, who heads the Search and Rescue Office in Cilacap—the district where the disaster occurred—said that teams are continuing efforts to locate the remaining missing people, according to reports.

He noted that the operation now involves a range of heavy machinery and support resources, including excavators, search dogs, and water pumps.

On Friday, Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency stated that 20 people had initially been reported missing and three deaths confirmed following the incident in Cilacap.

The agency added on Saturday that more than 90 residents have been forced to leave their homes due to the severe rainfall and landslides affecting Central Java.
