Airlines launch rescue flights following Blue Islands collapse

(MENAFN) Airlines are stepping in to help passengers stranded by the collapse of Jersey-based carrier Blue Islands. The company, which employed around 100 staff, announced on Friday that it had ceased trading and cancelled all bookings, leaving over 1,000 travelers affected.

Aurigny and Loganair have introduced additional flights to accommodate displaced passengers. Loganair will operate extra services from Jersey to Guernsey, Exeter, Bristol, and Southampton, as well as from Guernsey to Southampton starting Sunday. Aurigny has added flights between Southampton and Guernsey and Guernsey to Jersey from Saturday, initially running through Wednesday. Both airlines are offering special rescue fares to assist those needing to travel on the disrupted routes.

A spokesperson for Aurigny said the airline was “deeply saddened” by Blue Islands’ closure and had acted immediately to support affected customers. Loganair CEO Luke Farajallah highlighted the significance of Blue Islands in the UK’s regional aviation sector, calling its collapse “another sad day for regional aviation” following recent troubles at Eastern Airways.

Farajallah added that Loganair’s rapid response could lead to a long-term operational presence in Jersey, with the airline planning to establish a permanent base on the island.
