Israeli forces conduct raid in Syria’s Daraa province

(MENAFN) Israeli troops moved several dozen meters into agricultural land in southwestern Syria’s Daraa province on Saturday, reports said.

An Israeli patrol crossed onto farmland near the village of Maariya, firing shots and causing alarm among residents, according to local municipal sources. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Officials noted that the intrusion was not an isolated incident, citing a pattern of recent “provocations” in the area. Residents remain vigilant, working closely with local authorities and monitoring committees to address potential Israeli violations.

There was no immediate response from Israeli or Syrian authorities regarding the incident.

The Israeli military has frequently entered Syrian territory, conducting airstrikes that have reportedly killed civilians and destroyed Syrian army positions, vehicles, weapons, and ammunition. Government data indicates that since December 2024, Israeli forces carried out over 1,000 airstrikes and more than 400 cross-border raids into southern Syrian provinces.

Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in late 2024, Israel expanded its control over the Golan Heights, including the demilitarized buffer zone, in what has been described as a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement with Syria.
