Woman gets injured in Damascus explosion
(MENAFN) A woman sustained injuries Friday after an explosion in the Mezzeh area of Damascus, as authorities investigate the blast, according to reports. Initial information confirmed that the woman was wounded, and the explosion was heard across the Mezzeh district.
Security sources said the blast occurred at a home in the Mezzeh 86 neighborhood and appeared to result from an attack by unknown assailants. A military source added that rockets were fired from a mobile launcher, though “the party behind the attack and the exact weapons remain unknown so far.” Officials said “significant efforts” are underway to investigate all aspects and “provide the public with full details.”
The Defense Ministry described the incident as a “treacherous attack,” noting that two Katyusha rockets were launched from the outskirts of the capital toward residential neighborhoods in Mezzeh and nearby areas. The ministry said the assault caused civilian injuries and property damage and that an investigation has been launched with the Interior Ministry to track rocket trajectories, identify launch sites, and gather evidence. Authorities pledged to hold those responsible accountable and “take deterrent measures against anyone who tampers with the security of the capital and targets the lives and stability of Syrians.”
The attack occurs as Syria’s transitional administration, led by President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, works to strengthen security nationwide following the departure of Bashar al-Assad to Russia last December, ending 24 years of Baath Party rule.
