Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mohammad Sohail Afridi has said that several major energy projects in the province are facing delays due to the federal government's refusal to issue No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) and its complicated approval procedures.

He made these remarks on Saturday while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the 40.8-megawatt Koto Hydropower Project in Lower Dir.

The event was attended by current and former PTI lawmakers from Lower Dir, Upper Dir and Bajaur, administrative officials, PEDO authorities and a large number of party workers.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary Power and Energy Muhammad Zubair Khan said the project is expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs2.4 billion. He added that alongside Koto, the Karora and Jabori hydropower projects are also ready for inauguration, and together the three projects will contribute Rs4.4 billion annually to the national exchequer.

CM Afridi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has immense potential to generate affordable electricity, which he described as part of the founding PTI leader's vision to ensure cheap power for future generations. He said the province was deliberately subjected to a wave of terrorism that deeply affected the economy of both KP and the country.

He said the province has been turned into a“laboratory” where new experiments are carried out every day, and whenever he speaks of peace and dialogue, his statements are deliberately misinterpreted. Regarding the energy sector, he said the province is laying its own 120-kilometre transmission line, which will directly benefit consumers.

Later, while addressing a large public gathering at the Timergara Rest House Ground, the chief minister launched a strong criticism of state institutions. He said that soon after the jirga held inside the provincial assembly, their guests were“disappeared,” calling it a grave violation of Pakhtun traditions. He said neither“Kaptaan” has bowed to pressure nor will he bow in the future, and neither will any of his workers.

He alleged that despite court orders, he is still not being allowed to meet his leader in jail. Throughout the rally, workers repeatedly chanted slogans urging the chief minister to stay firm, saying,“Qadam barhao, hum tumhare saath hain.”

PTI provincial president MNA Junaid Akbar Khan, MNA Mehboob Shah, Shahid Khattak, Malik Liaqat Ali, Malik Shafiullah and other party leaders also addressed the gathering.

Local lawmakers presented an extensive charter of demands based on development needs. However, the chief minister made no new announcements in his speech. Later, the lawmakers told journalists that CM Afridi took the charter with him and would consult on it in detail at a later stage.

In his speech, PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar warned the government that the more amendments it introduces, the more it will fuel resentment among workers, but“their love for Imran Khan cannot diminish.”
