Indian Government Confirms Delhi Blast Was A Terror Attack
India's government said the car blast that rocked central Delhi near the Red Fort on Monday was a terrorist act carried out by“anti-national forces.”
At least eight people were killed and 20 others injured in the explosion, which occurred during rush hour near a metro station close to the historic site.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet held an emergency security meeting on Wednesday, calling the bombing a“cowardly and heinous act,” and directed authorities to investigate swiftly.
Home Minister Amit Shah said all possibilities are being explored and the investigation will be conducted“with utmost urgency and professionalism” to identify the perpetrators.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said the explosion occurred when a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light and then detonated, damaging nearby cars.
Authorities said the blast originated from a Hyundai i20 carrying three passengers. No arrests have yet been made, and forensic experts are combing through the scene.
High security alerts were declared across Delhi and neighboring states, including Uttar Pradesh, home to major landmarks like the Taj Mahal, following the incident.
Modi expressed condolences to victims' families, while opposition leader Rahul Gandhi called the news“heartbreaking,” urging unity and vigilance against terrorism.
