U.S. House Approves Bill to End Government Shutdown
(MENAFN) The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday endorsed a bill intended to bring an end to the nation’s longest government shutdown, which has now reached its 43rd day.
Legislators cast a 222-209 vote in favor of the Senate’s revision to H.R. 5371, Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026.
This proposal will now proceed to President Donald Trump’s desk to be enacted into law.
Earlier in the week, the Senate approved the advancement of a House-introduced funding measure by a 60-40 margin.
This version will be modified to continue federal financing until Jan. 30 and to include three complete annual appropriations bills.
The shutdown started on Oct. 1 following a collapse in discussions regarding national spending priorities.
Since then, thousands of federal employees have been placed on furlough or have continued working without pay, while numerous public services have been reduced or halted.
