White House denies plans for US military base on Gaza border
(MENAFN) The White House on Wednesday rejected a report claiming that the US is planning to establish a temporary military base along the Gaza border.
Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the story, which originated from a single inquiry within the Department of the Navy, was misrepresented as an official plan. “This is not something the United States is interested in being engaged in ... it's not something we are currently involved in right now,” she said.
The report, published by Yedioth Ahronoth and citing anonymous Israeli sources, suggested Washington was considering a large military base near Gaza, which would mark “the first large-scale American military installation on Israeli territory” and signal an escalation of US involvement in post-war stabilization efforts.
Leavitt emphasized that President Donald Trump has been clear about avoiding ground troop deployments in the region. “We've made great peace, we've made great progress with the peace plan in Gaza and we want to continue to see that move forward,” she added.
