Global leaders offer condolences to Turkey after army plane crash
(MENAFN) Nations across the globe expressed solidarity with Türkiye on Tuesday after a Turkish military cargo aircraft went down in Georgia, claiming multiple lives.
According to reports, the president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Tufan Erhurman, conveyed his sorrow over the tragic event, saying he learned of the crash “with great sadness,” and wished strength to “the families, loved ones, and the people of Türkiye.”
TRNC Prime Minister Unal Ustel and Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu also issued messages of condolence, affirming the Turkish Cypriot community’s unity with Türkiye and extending prayers for the soldiers who perished.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent a note of sympathy to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, mourning the loss of lives in the disaster. Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev similarly expressed “deep condolences” to the Turkish people and the victims’ families.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced his grief on social media, stating he was “saddened by the tragic crash of the Turkish C-130 aircraft in Georgia.” He continued, “Heartfelt condolences to my dear brother President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the families of those on board and to our Turkish brothers and sisters. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this moment of grief.”
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry added that the country “stands in full solidarity with its Turkish brothers and sisters.”
Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry also posted a message expressing “deep sorrow over the incident of the Turkish military transport aircraft crash.” It stated, “We sincerely extend our condolences to the brotherly government and people of Türkiye, as well as to the families of the victims.”
Jordan’s Foreign Ministry conveyed its "sincerest condolences" to Türkiye, reaffirming the kingdom’s solidarity and support. A spokesperson emphasized that the country stood by Türkiye and offered sympathy to the bereaved families.

Estonia also issued a message of sympathy, saying its government “extends its sincere condolences to Türkiye following the tragic crash of a Turkish military cargo plane near the Georgia-Azerbaijan border.” The statement added, “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the families and loved ones of the crew members who lost their lives. Estonia stands in full solidarity with Türkiye during this difficult time.”
Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry wrote, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the Turkish military cargo plane's tragic crash near the Georgia–Azerbaijan border,” adding that the country “stands in solidarity with our ally Türkiye at this difficult time and extend[s] our sincere sympathies to all those affected by this tragedy.”
Romania also expressed condolences, saying it was “deeply saddened by the tragic crash of a Turkish military aircraft near the Georgia–Azerbaijan border” and that it “extends heartfelt condolences to Türkiye and to the families of the crew members who lost their lives.”
Malta’s Foreign Minister Ian Borg wrote, “Deeply saddened by the Turkish plane crash in Georgia. Heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives. We share in the grief of the Turkish people over this tragic loss.”
Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani stated, "Our profound condolences to President @RTErdogan, the Turkish Armed Forces, and the people of Türkiye following the tragic crash of a military aircraft."
Other nations, including Japan, France, Russia, the Netherlands, Greece, Germany, and Ukraine, also expressed sympathy through their diplomatic missions in Ankara.
According to the Turkish Defense Ministry, the C-130 transport plane had been traveling from Azerbaijan when it crashed in Georgia with 20 individuals on board, including the flight crew.
Rescue operations were immediately launched. The ministry later confirmed that “Georgian search and rescue teams reached the wreckage of the plane at 5 pm,” and that the site had been secured for examination by Türkiye’s crash investigation team.
