(MENAFN) Despite progress since last month’s ceasefire, significant hurdles continue to hinder humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, the UN relief chief said on Monday.

"One month after the Gaza ceasefire, we’re continuing to seize every opportunity to save lives," stated Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.

Fletcher acknowledged that aid delivery has improved, noting that "the UN and our partners have fed more than a million people," and emphasizing that “nutrition sites have been reopened and hospitals are treating more patients."

He added that "roads have been cleared" and crucial services—including immunizations, water line repairs, and distribution of winter clothing, blankets, and mental health support—have resumed.

However, he cautioned that "many obstacles remain," explaining that the UN is "working to overcome red tape, enable essential humanitarian partners, open more crossings and routes, and navigate continued insecurity."

"With these constraints eased, we can do much more to save many more lives," Fletcher stressed.
