Russia seeks quick end to Ukraine war— Kremlin spokesman
(MENAFN) Russia aims to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible but insists that its original objectives must first be met, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Monday, according to state media reports.
Addressing reporters in Moscow, Peskov said Russia continues to favor a political and diplomatic resolution, calling this route “preferable.” However, he emphasized that peace can only come once the goals declared at the start of what Moscow terms its “special military operation” in February 2022—Ukraine’s “demilitarization” and “denazification”—are fulfilled.
Peskov argued that stalled negotiations are “through no fault of Russia,” accusing European nations of fostering Kyiv’s belief that it could win on the battlefield. “Western nations are egging on Ukraine instead of promoting talks,” he said.
He described the situation on the front lines as “dynamic,” claiming it reflects a steady weakening of Ukraine’s position. According to him, more Ukrainians are likely to support peace “on Russia’s terms” as internal challenges mount.
The Kremlin spokesman also welcomed Kazakhstan’s willingness to host and mediate potential peace discussions between Moscow and Kyiv, saying Russia “highly values” Astana’s role. He called Kazakhstan a “special, privileged partner,” adding that preparations are nearly complete for President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state visit to Russia, which starts Tuesday.
Peskov further confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to visit India at the end of 2025, describing the upcoming trip as “meaningful” and aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
