Zelensky Enforces New Sanctions on Russian Officials
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has implemented a fresh set of sanctions targeting multiple Russian figures, among them Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s economic adviser and an influential participant in the ongoing peace talks.
The restrictions, revealed on Sunday, also encompass five Russian publishing companies.
Dmitriev, who leads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, has become a central mediator in the effort to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Educated at Harvard and formerly employed in banking, he has traveled to the United States on numerous occasions to meet with members of President Donald Trump’s administration, where discussions focused on peace proposals.
The Russian official has emphasized the value of continued dialogue, urging Washington to avoid what he referred to as the unsuccessful policies of Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden.
He argued that strategies rooted in hostility have repeatedly shown to be ineffective.
In a declaration posted on his official website, Zelensky accused Dmitriev of “spreading propaganda and attracting Russian investments into key sectors of foreign economies.”
The Ukrainian leader connected these actions to Moscow’s earlier decision to impose sanctions on Ukrainian representatives, including Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.
Officials in Kiev stated that they would “share its proposals for new sanctions with the relevant partners,” insisting that Russia “deserves far greater global pressure.”
The updated sanctions list further names Lieutenant General Aleksandr Zorin, a participant in Russia’s delegation at the Istanbul negotiations held earlier this year.
During the Istanbul discussions, both sides consented to arrange multiple prisoner-of-war exchanges and to repatriate the bodies of deceased soldiers.
