Dr. Jacob L. Bongers is a digital archaeologist who specializes in geospatial mapping and archaeological survey, drone-based photography and photogrammetry, and GIS analyses. He is currently the Tom Austen Brown Postdoctoral Research Associate in Archaeology at the University of Sydney. He is also a member of the Vere Gordon Childe Centre and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Australian Museum Research Institute.

Over 16 field seasons, Bongers has led archaeological fieldwork in Portugal, Chile, Ethiopia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Australia, Torres Strait, and Peru.

He has also collaborated with museums on public programs and media engagement for exhibitions. Previously, Bongers served as a Guest Expert for the Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires exhibition at the Australian Museum (2024-2025). He has also served as a Curatorial Consultant for the Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs exhibition at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Prior to joining the University of Sydney, Bongers served as a Society of Fellows Postdoctoral Scholar at Boston University (2022 - 2023) and a Senior Research Associate at the University of East Anglia (2019 - 2022).
