Engineer Ahmad Mohammed Al Sada: Qatar's COP30 Participation Underscores Steadfast Commitment To Global Climate Action


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Engineer Ahmad Mohammed Al Sada affirmed that the State of Qatar's participation in the 30th Conference of the Parties of the to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), currently being held in the city of Belém, Brazil, highlight its firm commitment to global climate action.
He stressed that addressing climate change is a shared responsibility that requires collective action based on the principles of justice and balance among nations to ensure that climate solutions take into account the developmental and economic differences between developing and developed countries.
In an exclusive interview with the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Sada highlighted Qatar's emphasis on the importance of a just transition toward clean energy, without compromising the right of developing countries to achieve sustainable development and ensure their energy, food, and water security.
He added that Qatar calls on the international community to enhance cooperation in the areas of technology transfer, capacity building, and investment in innovation, as these are fundamental pillars for achieving a sustainable future.
Al Sada explained that Qatar's participation in the COP30 Climate Summit reaffirms its commitment to working with regional and international partners to support the goals of the Paris Agreement and to strengthen global efforts to combat climate change.
Regarding the objectives of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for the coming years, Engineer Ahmad Mohammed Al Sada explained that climate change is a key pillar of the ministry's strategy, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to achieve balance between human development and environmental protection. He pointed out that the ministry is working to adopt integrated policies and comprehensive implementation plans to enhance the country's resilience against climate challenges, adding that Qatar has already submitted its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) report in accordance with the requirements of the Paris Agreement.
He also revealed that work is underway to launch the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), which represents one of the main pillars of the national climate action framework. The plan covers all vital sectors by assessing climate risks and proposing practical solutions to address them.
Al Sada noted that the ministry prepares regular international reports submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), such as national communications and periodic reports, which document progress in implementing national contributions and highlight Qatar's achievements in this field.
He further stated that the ministry attaches great importance to building national capacities through training workshops and qualification programs in climate change, in addition to raising community environmental awareness and encouraging the participation of individuals and institutions in environmental protection efforts.
Regarding Qatar's support for international efforts to reduce carbon emissions, Al Sada stressed that the State of Qatar plays an active and responsible role in this area, emphasizing that the country's vision is based on balancing economic growth with environmental protection, which is a reflection of its commitment to sustainability as a core foundation of its development policies.
Speaking about national projects to adapt to the impacts of climate change, he explained that the ministry is developing the National Adaptation Plan as a comprehensive framework to address climate challenges. He pointed out that Qatar is implementing various initiatives such as urban afforestation and expanding green spaces, which contribute to lowering temperatures and improving air quality. He noted that these efforts represent broad national cooperation between governmental and scientific institutions, reflecting Qatar's commitment to strengthening its adaptive capacity and ensuring sustainable development.
As for the challenges facing Qatar in implementing climate policies, Al Sada noted that natural and economic challenges require a careful balance between sustainable development and environmental protection. He added that efforts are underway to integrate climate action across all national sectors, improve energy efficiency, and apply the latest technologies in the areas of water, energy, and waste management. He emphasized the importance of integration among policies, technology, and public awareness, considering this integration as the cornerstone for achieving both environmental and developmental sustainability goals.
At the conclusion of his interview with QNA, Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Engineer Ahmad Mohammed Al Sada, revealed that one of the ministry's key projects is the National Measurement System, which is a comprehensive digital platform that collects and analyzes climate change data in the country, enabling the preparation of accurate and transparent reports submitted to the UNFCCC. He affirmed that this project reflects Qatar's commitment to transparency and environmental governance as part of its efforts to address climate change.
