Eight Go Missing as Fishing Boat Sinks in China Waters

(MENAFN) A fishing boat plunged beneath the waves after striking a commercial ship off Shandong province's coast in eastern China on Sunday, leaving eight people unaccounted for.

The Liaoning-registered fishing vessel and Shanghai-registered commercial ship collided approximately 3.5 nautical miles east of Shandong province, authorities reported.

The fishing boat sank following impact, while the commercial vessel sustained no damage and remained afloat.

Port departure records indicate the fishing boat carried nine people when it left harbor, according to Global Times.

Rescue teams have deployed vessels, helicopters, and enlisted nearby commercial and fishing boats to assist in search-and-recovery operations.

One person has been pulled from the water in stable condition, while eight others remain missing as search-and-rescue missions continue.
