Israeli strike in southern Lebanon kills one person despite truce

(MENAFN) An Israeli strike on Sunday in southern Lebanon killed one person, marking the latest breach of the ceasefire that has been in place since November 2024, according to the Health Ministry. The fatality occurred in an area between Al-Sawwaneh and Khirbet Selm in Bint Jbeil.

Reports stated that an Israeli drone fired three missiles at a pickup truck in the area. Additional drones were observed flying at low altitudes over the Tyre district, Nabatieh province, Iqlim Al-Tuffah region, and parts of Bint Jbeil. Israeli forces also conducted a combing operation using heavy weaponry near Alma Al-Shaab in Tyre.

No immediate response came from the Israeli military regarding the strike. Tensions in southern Lebanon have escalated over recent weeks, with near-daily Israeli air raids targeting alleged Hezbollah positions and infrastructure.

Since October 2023, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have reportedly killed over 4,000 people and injured nearly 17,000, with the conflict intensifying into a full-scale offensive by September 2024.
