Xi Urges High Standards in Hainan Free Trade Port Development

(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday emphasized the need to apply elevated standards in constructing the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP).

Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made these remarks while receiving a progress report in Sanya, located in the southern island province of Hainan, regarding the progress of the Hainan FTP project.

According to Xi, the establishment of the Hainan FTP represents a crucial decision made by the CPC Central Committee to comprehensively deepen reform and expand openness in the current era.

He underscored the importance of thoroughly studying and implementing the guiding principles from the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.

Furthermore, he urged the attainment of the Hainan FTP’s developmental goals through unified coordination, proactive engagement, and persistent dedication.

The Hainan FTP is set to officially commence island-wide special customs operations on December 18 of this year.

Xi described this as “a landmark move of China to unwaveringly expand high-standard opening up and promote the development of an open world economy.”

To transform the Hainan FTP into a pivotal gateway that drives the nation’s opening up in the new era, Xi highlighted the necessity of fully executing the overall blueprint for the port’s construction.

He also called for the implementation of the Hainan Free Trade Port Law and the gradual establishment of a policy and institutional framework aligned with the high-level FTP, to be completed in well-structured steps and phases.
