Türkiye Calls European Commission Report "Biased"
(MENAFN) Ankara on Tuesday dismissed a recent European Commission report, describing it as "biased" and containing unsubstantiated claims concerning the judiciary, fundamental rights, and domestic political developments in Türkiye.
According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the remarks in the report contradict ongoing efforts to build a constructive agenda between Türkiye and the EU.
The ministry also noted that the language used in the report undermines the long-term interests of both sides.
The statement followed the release of the European Commission’s Türkiye report earlier on Tuesday.
The ministry emphasized that the report's assessment of Türkiye's alignment with the EU acquis serves as the clearest indication of Ankara's dedication to the strategic aim of EU membership, despite the political and unfair challenges encountered during the accession process.
Türkiye regards the report’s acknowledgment of its strong alignment with a functioning market economy and sound macroeconomic policies as both positive and timely, the ministry added.
Additionally, the ministry welcomed the report’s recognition of Türkiye's constructive approach in the Eastern Mediterranean, the enhancement of ties with Greece, and the strengthened dialogue with the EU.
In light of these developments, Türkiye reiterated its legitimate expectation that the decisions of the Foreign Affairs Council from July 15, 2019, be promptly annulled, it stressed.
Ankara also expressed approval of the report’s references to its proactive and multi-dimensional foreign policy, its determined pursuit of strategic partnerships, and its constructive contribution to regional peace and stability.
