The Excise Intelligence Bureau (EIB) foiled an attempt to smuggle ice (crystal meth) to Saudi Arabia under the guise of Umrah, arresting a suspect who had concealed the drug in his slippers and inside his body.

According to officials, the raid was conducted near Pir Zakori Bridge in Peshawar, where the accused, identified as Ejaz Ahmad, son of Noor Muhammad and a resident of Rahim Yar Khan, was taken into custody.

During inspection, 330 grams of ice were recovered from his slippers. He was later shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where a medical examination revealed several capsules filled with ice concealed in his stomach.

EIB officers said the operation was carried out on a tip-off by Inspector Muazzam Jan Khan and Sub-Inspector Hamza Sharoom Khan under the supervision of Bureau In-charge Saud Khan Gandapur.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was traveling to Multan and intended to proceed to Makkah to smuggle the drug under the pretext of performing Umrah.

A case has been registered at the Excise Police Station in Peshawar Region, while investigations are underway to trace other members of the network.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise and Taxation, Syed Fakhar Jehan, has announced a 15-day deadline for eliminating ice from the province.

He warned that if drugs are found available in any area after this period, strict action will be taken against the concerned officers and staff.
