Dick Cheney Passes Away at 84
(MENAFN) Former United States Vice President Dick Cheney has passed away due to complications related to pneumonia as well as heart and vascular conditions, his family confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.
“Richard B. Cheney, the 46th Vice President of the United States, died last night, November 3, 2025. He was 84 years old,” the statement says. “His beloved wife of 61 years, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and other family members were with him as he passed.
The former Vice President died due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.”
Cheney, who served under former US President George W. Bush from 2001 until 2009, was a key figure behind the controversial 2003 US invasion of Iraq.
He was part of the administration team that propagated the claim that Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.
Cheney also championed the broader ‘war on terror,’ sanctioned the use of torture against terrorism suspects, and approved warrantless surveillance of Americans’ phone communications and emails.
He concluded his term with one of the lowest approval ratings ever recorded for a US vice president, according to prominent US pollsters.
Despite this, Cheney maintained that he stood by his decisions, arguing they were necessary following the September 11 attacks that claimed nearly 2,800 lives.
“I would do it again in a minute,” he remarked in 2014 in response to a Senate report that criticized CIA interrogation techniques as brutal, ineffective, and harmful to America’s international reputation.
