U.S. Blocks Sale of Nvidia’s ‘Blackwell’ AI Chip to China
(MENAFN) The United States will temporarily prevent Nvidia from exporting its most sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) chip to China, according to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday.
"As for the most advanced chips, the ‘Blackwell’ chip, that's not something we're interested in selling to China at this time," Leavitt stated during a press conference.
Leavitt emphasized that US President Donald Trump maintains a firm position on the matter.
Her statements came after Trump remarked on Sunday that the world’s most valuable company’s most cutting-edge chips would be reserved for American firms and prohibited from being sold to China and other countries.
Since Trump indicated in August that he might allow the sale of a smaller version of the Blackwell chip to China, speculation has persisted about whether such shipments would be approved.
During their recent summit in South Korea, Trump suggested the possibility of discussing the chips with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but he later confirmed that the topic was not raised during their meeting.
