U.S. Prohibits Nvidia from Exporting Advanced AI Chips to China
(MENAFN) The US will prohibit Nvidia from exporting its most sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) processors to China for now, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced Tuesday.
"As for the most advanced chips, the 'Blackwell' chip, that's not something we're interested in selling to China at this time," she said during a press briefing.
Leavitt emphasized that US President Donald Trump maintains an unambiguous position on this issue.
Her statement followed Trump's Sunday declaration that the world's most valuable corporation's cutting-edge chips would remain exclusive to US businesses and prohibited from export to China and other nations.
Questions have emerged regarding whether Trump would authorize such exports after he indicated in August he would permit sales of a reduced-scale Blackwell chip to China.
During their summit in South Korea last week, Trump suggested he could bring up the chips with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but he later stated that the subject was not brought up.
The policy decision marks a significant moment in ongoing US-China technological competition, with Washington maintaining strict controls over advanced semiconductor exports that could enhance Beijing's AI capabilities.
