Cabinet Oks Broadening Transport Cooperation With UAE, Backs Public Greening

KUWAIT, Nov 4 (KUNA) -- The Cabinet held its regular session on Tuesday at Bayan Palace under presidency of the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, blessing a draft decree envisaging expanded transport cooperation with the United Arab Emirates and backing public greening initiatives.
Following the session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereedah Al-Mousherji said the ministers, at start of the meeting, examined messages, received by the Amiri Diwan and addressed to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from presidents of sisterly and friendly states on means of cementing the bilateral relations and activating cooperation mechanisms with these countries in various domains.
The ministers approved a draft decree regarding a memorandum of understanding between the State of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates on land transports and road rules for setting the cooperation framework to revamp the land transports, the railways, swapping expertise and know-how, matching international developments, as well as for encouraging joint investments in the land transports in addition to backing up partnership between the public and private sectors for employing smart transport systems and modern technologies in the field.
Moreover in this respect, the proposed decree envisages exchange of practical methods for managing road assets by installing smart monitors, exchanging expertise in lowering operating costs of the road assets and the affiliates as well as applying criteria of environmental sustainability in the road projects.
The ministers decided to submit the relevant draft decree to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Furthermore, the ministers examined minutes of the ministerial public services commission that included a report prepared by the "urban green development initiatives committee" regarding the initiatives and donations from individuals, companies, cooperative societies on beautification planting along the roads, highways, roundabouts and at public parks in the residential districts and installing memorial statues at key road intersections.
The report also envisions habilitating and farming coral reefs around Kuwaiti islands.
The ministers approved these initiatives and donations, lauding tangible efforts by Al-Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Humoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for enhancing communal initiatives and responsibility and stimulating associations and individuals to play a part in beautifying the State of Kuwait and promoting its civic features.
The ministers were notified about lineup of the official delegation accompanying the Representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al=Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, during his official visit to Qatar to head State of Kuwait delegation participating in the Second World Summit for Social Development that convened in Doha earlier today.
The Kuwaiti delegation to the summit grouped Minister of Social Affairs, Family Affairs and Childhood Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, Undersecretary of the Prime Minister's Diwan Sheikh Khaled Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, the State of Kuwait Representative at the United Nations Ambassador Tareq Al-Bannai, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah, Director of the Prime Minister's Office Hamad Mubarak Bin Sabt.
Meanwhile, the Representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Electricity, Water, Renewable Energy, Minister of Finance and the Acting Minister of State for Investment and Economic Affairs, Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem, briefed the ministers about outcome of his participation in the Ninth Edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference that had been held under the logo, "the key to prosperity" in Saudi Arabia, last week.
The Saudi-hosted conference comprised heads of state, ministers, officials in charge of sovereign funds, heads of state, senior executives and pioneers in various fields. The event included discussions panels and bilateral talks focusing on strategies for attaining balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability.
For her part, Dr. Nora Al-Mashaan, Minister of Public Works and head of the honorary mission that accompanied the Chinese Vice President Han Zheng during his official visit to the country last Saturday and Sunday, informed the cabinet about results and topics that were broached during his audience with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber al-Sabah, attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad al-Sabah.
Minister Al-Mashaan also addressed her peers about official discussions between the State of Kuwait People's Republic of China, where His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled led the Kuwaiti side while Han headed the Chinese officials, in addition to the meeting that had grouped the Chinese guest and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, focusing on the growing bilateral relations, means of enhancing cooperation in diverse spheres, issues of joint concern, various regional and international affairs.
The ministers examined minutes of the "ministerial committee for food, medicinal and water security," encompassing a report by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy with respect of the measures that had been taken according to the strategy for boosting food-water system in the State of Kuwait.
This particular strategy is designed to expand productivity of the water desalination installations and storage of water networks by means of investing in innovating technology to enhance water output, while maintaining the natural and environmental resources, backing up scientific researches and studies, with concern to be dedicated to securing specialized personnel for managing water resources.
In this respect, the Cabinet decided to task the Ministry of Electricity to pursue its efforts in this regard.
The Cabinet examined and approved a number of the topics in the agenda, submitted some of them to ministerial committees for study and preparing reports, pending completion of the required procedures.
The ministers adopted minutes of the Supreme Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship Investigation, cases of stripping a number of individuals of the citizenship, according to the decree-into-law 15/1959. (end) rk
