China’s Shenzhou-20 Spacecraft Finalizes In-Orbit Handover
(MENAFN) The crew of China’s Shenzhou-20 spacecraft has completed an in-orbit handover with the Shenzhou-21 team aboard the Chinese Space Station, the China Manned Space Agency (CMS) confirmed on Tuesday.
In a short ceremony, the two teams officially transferred control of the space station, CMS said in a brief statement on US social media company X. "During a brief ceremony, the two crews officially transferred the keys of the Chinese Space Station," the agency added.
The Shenzhou-20 astronauts are scheduled to return to Earth on Nov. 5, concluding a 188-day mission in orbit.
Commander Chen Dong of Shenzhou-20 has set a new record as the first Chinese astronaut to spend more than 400 days in space. He also now holds the national record for the most spacewalks, completing six extravehicular activities.
Earlier on Friday, China launched its sixth crewed mission, sending three astronauts—including its youngest-ever taikonaut—along with four mice to the Tiangong space station. This marks the first time the space station has hosted mice for scientific experiments, with two males and two females onboard.
