Zelenskyy Says No European Peace Plan Seen
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Monday that he has not yet encountered a European strategy to end the ongoing war, even though multiple nations on the continent have suggested ideas for a peaceful resolution.
“The important thing in this matter is, have I, as the president of Ukraine, seen this plan? No. There are different European views and proposals for a peaceful settlement,” Zelenskyy said during a briefing, according to a media outlet.
He noted that neither US President Donald Trump nor European leaders have succeeded in persuading Russia to enter direct talks.
Since the start of his second term in January, Trump has spearheaded initiatives to halt the conflict in Ukraine.
He met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska in August and later proposed a trilateral meeting including Zelenskyy. Russia, however, has maintained that any meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy requires thorough preparation and must produce tangible results.
Plans for a new Trump-Putin summit in Budapest did not materialize.
“Consultations are ongoing at the advisory level, but no final plan is currently on the table,” Zelenskyy remarked, adding that if a plan is formulated with Europe, “Ukraine will discuss it with the United States, as the Americans have their own vision.”
Although details remain limited, the European peace initiative reportedly envisions a ceasefire along the current frontlines, followed by negotiations to end the conflict.
Zelenskyy also revealed that a US delegation is scheduled to visit Ukraine next week to discuss a potential drone production agreement.
