China Tells Germany to Avoid “Megaphone Diplomacy”

(MENAFN) China has urged Germany to steer clear of “megaphone diplomacy” and refrain from making “unfounded accusations that contradict the facts,” according to a statement released on Monday.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted that both nations should “adhere to communication and dialogue, enhance understanding, eliminate misunderstandings and consolidate mutual trust” during discussions with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul.

The conversation followed Wadephul’s postponement last month of a trip to China, after Beijing had not confirmed any meetings aside from a scheduled session with Wang.

During the call, which was initiated at Germany's request, Wang recalled that “China had unconditionally supported Germany's unification in the past” and expressed hope that Germany, having experienced the hardships of division, could fully understand and endorse China’s efforts to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity by opposing any “Taiwan independence” separatist movements.

Wang further stressed that “maintaining the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations aligns with their mutual interests and international expectations, contributing to global peace and stability.”

He underscored the importance of mutual respect, win-win collaboration, and a more consistent policy framework to “ensure that bilateral ties stay on the right track.”

Finally, Wang reaffirmed that the one-China principle “is the most important political foundation of China-Germany relations.”
