Changpeng Zhao denies involvement in Kyrgyzstan bank plan

Binance's prominent founder, Changpeng“CZ” Zhao, has publicly refuted claims suggesting he spearheaded efforts to establish a private crypto bank in Kyrgyzstan. Reports circulated after Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov mentioned during an interview that CZ suggested creating a cryptocurrency-focused bank during a visit in May.

The president indicated that although he initially favored a state-owned bank, CZ's rejection of that idea led to the formation of Bereket Bank as a private banking alternative. However, CZ took to social media to clarify that he was not involved in any such proposal and has no intentions of running a bank.

He added,“I might have said I wish there to be as many digital banks supporting crypto as possible.”

Despite distancing himself from the proposed private bank, CZ confirmed in April that he has been advising Kyrgyzstan on blockchain and cryptocurrency regulation under a memorandum of understanding with the country's foreign investment agency.

Since then, Zhao has actively contributed to shaping Kyrgyzstan's evolving crypto landscape, including supporting the launch of a new stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Kyrgyzstani som. CZ announced that the stablecoin would operate on the BNB Chain, with plans to incorporate BNB into the country's crypto reserve.

Beyond stablecoin development, CZ revealed that Kyrgyzstan is integrating Binance's educational platform, Binance Academy, with its top universities. Additionally, localizing the Binance app across the country aims to enhance accessibility and crypto adoption.

These initiatives underscore Kyrgyzstan's strategic efforts to position itself as a compliant and innovative crypto hub, leveraging blockchain technology to foster economic growth and digital innovation.
