UK train stabbing suspect told police to kill him
(MENAFN) Newly released footage shows the suspect in Saturday’s mass stabbing on a train near Cambridge, East England, repeatedly demanding that police “kill” him before being tased and detained.
British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that the 32-year-old suspect, a Black British national from Peterborough, is now the only person being treated as involved in the attack. A 35-year-old man initially arrested at the scene has been released after inquiries cleared him.
The attack left one person in life-threatening condition—the train driver, Andrew Johnson, who attempted to stop the assailant. Five other victims have since been discharged from hospital.
According to the BTP, the suspect boarded the train just minutes before carrying out the stabbing. A knife was recovered at the scene. Video captured by a taxi driver shows armed officers tasing and taking the suspect into custody as he shouted “kill me.”
While Counter Terrorism Policing was initially involved, authorities stated there is currently no indication that the attack was linked to terrorism.
