Al-Sisi, Steinmeier Discuss Gaza Ceasefire, Boosting Egyptian-German Partnership
Al-Sisi welcomed Steinmeier's visit and praised his participation in the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), describing it as a reflection of the“deep-rooted and historical ties” between Egypt and Germany. For his part, Steinmeier congratulated Egypt on the opening of the museum, calling it“a cultural achievement that embodies the greatness of Egyptian civilization.”
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy said the talks reviewed ways to advance the Egyptian–German strategic partnership across a broad range of fields, including political, military, and security cooperation, as well as industry, transportation, investment, energy – particularly renewable – and education.
Al-Sisi underscored the importance of building on the momentum generated by the first Egypt-EU Summit to deepen cooperation with Europe, especially in areas that support sustainable economic development and regional stability.
The two presidents also discussed joint efforts to curb irregular migration, regulate labour mobility, and follow up on ongoing infrastructure and development projects. They agreed to maintain close coordination to achieve mutual growth and prosperity.
On regional developments, Al-Sisi stressed the urgent need to uphold the Gaza ceasefire, facilitate the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid, and expedite reconstruction efforts. He reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to work closely with Germany in preparation for the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, scheduled for November 2025.
Steinmeier expressed appreciation for Egypt's pivotal mediation efforts, which helped achieve a ceasefire and convene the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to the two-state solution as the sole path toward lasting peace and stability in the Middle East, with Steinmeier noting that successive German governments have consistently supported this approach.
